When importing reviews from Amazon, you may notice that the number of individual written reviews imported into Appio is lower than the total number of ratings displayed in the product's rating summary on Amazon.
This is because Amazon limits the number of written reviews displayed on each product's review page to a maximum of 100 (10 pages, with 10 reviews per page), regardless of how many total ratings the product has received.
This is a limitation imposed by Amazon, not by Appio. Therefore, all third-party apps that import reviews directly from Amazon are subject to the same restriction.
Amazon displays a product's overall rating summary separately from its individual written reviews.
For example, a product may have:
Average rating: 4.8 out of 5
Total ratings: 25,000
However, Amazon only displays up to 100 individual written reviews on its product review pages (10 pages, with 10 reviews per page).
Since Appio retrieves reviews from these pages, it can import a maximum of 100 individual written reviews per Amazon product URL.
This limitation applies to all third-party review import apps that rely on Amazon's product review pages. It is not a restriction specific to Appio.
If the same Shopify product has multiple corresponding Amazon product URLs, you can add those URLs to Appio to retrieve reviews from each source.
Each URL may provide access to up to 100 written reviews. This can help you import additional individual reviews for the same Shopify product when different URLs provide access to different reviews.
Although Amazon limits the number of written reviews displayed on its product review pages, Appio provides a feature called Show reviews summary from Amazon. It allows you to display the original average star rating and total rating count from Amazon on your Shopify products.
This means the rating summary does not have to be calculated solely from the individual reviews imported into Appio.
Example:
Suppose an Amazon product displays:
Average rating: 4.8 out of 5
Total ratings: 25,000
Appio can import up to 100 individual written reviews from that Amazon product URL. However, with Show reviews summary from Amazon enabled, your Shopify product can still display the original Amazon rating summary:
4.8 stars (25,000 ratings)
